JORDAN is blessed with a wealth of antiquities and unique attractions all within easy reach in so small a country.

PETRA - Famous the world over, visitors are awed by the magnificance and beauty of Nabataean tombs, temples, theatres and monuments. It is a site without parallel and fully justifies a minimum of a full day's exploration.

JARASH - Sometimes referred to as the 'Pompeii of the East', is as fine an example of Roman antiquity as one could hope to find, but without the crowds of Europe. At least a half day should be allowed for exploration.

MOUNT NEBO - Jordan is, at times, referred to as 'The Other Holy Land'. High on the plateau of Moab stands Mt Nebo or Siyagha in Arabic. Under the care of the Franciscan Fathers since 1933, one can stand where Moses once stood with stupendous views of the Promised Land with the Dead Sea far below.

DEAD SEA - No visit would be complete without experiencing the curious sensation of floating on the silky surface of this curious sea whose waters are 20 times more salty than the Mediterranean.

MADABA - The city of mosaics, Madaba dates back to biblical times. The 6th century Madaba Map may be seen in the Greek Orthodox Church.

WADI RUM - This is the land that gave rise to the enigmatic figure of T E Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia. Spend as much time as possible here as both the incredibly beautiful landscape and our Bedouin guides will make every moment special. Explore by jeep, on foot, or by camel. Relax and watch the sunset, or climb the highest peak - it is all there to be discovered.

DANA NATURE RESERVE - The jewel in the crown of the Royal Society for Conservation of Nature, Dana offers trekking and camping.

THE RED SEA - An underwater world, teeming with life and colour. Relax on the beach for a day or so after your explorations, or dive with the Royal Jordanian Diving School.

KARAK CASTLE - Crusader in origin, the castle was attacked by Salah-ad-Din or, as he is known in the west, Saladin.

CLIMATE AND WHEN TO VISIT

Jordan enjoys almost year round sunshine and blues skies. Rain, which mainly falls in the north, comes in late Autumn and early Spring. In the south, rain is negligible. Months to avoid are June, July and August, when most northern Europeans simply find any activity other than lying around on the beach unbearably hot!
